When Distance Can’t Break a Friendship

A few years ago, my best friend Holly moved away, and I remember wondering how we’d stay close with so many miles between us.

But we made a promise – we wouldn’t let distance change our friendship.

Over the years, we’ve kept that promise. She visits me in Michigan when she can, and I make my way to Tennessee whenever I’m able. In 2018, we spent our time doing what we love most – hiking, exploring, and just being present together.

A day I wish I could relive over and over again

One of those days took us to City Lake Natural Area in Tennessee. It wasn’t a long or difficult hike, but it didn’t need to be.

One of those quiet places that stays with you

It was quiet. Peaceful. The kind of place where everything slows down and you can just breathe.

Simple moments that mean everything

Life has gotten busy, and we haven’t been able to visit each other in a few years. It makes me appreciate memories like this even more.

Looking back, it’s not just the trail I remember – it’s the laughter, the conversations, and the comfort of being with someone who truly knows you.

A short hike I’ll never forget
A place where everything just felt still

Some places are beautiful for what you see.

And some are beautiful because of who you share them with.

This one was both.

And some memories never really leave you.
