Located near the shoreline of Lake Michigan in Elk Rapids, Michigan, the Walk of Art Sculpture Gallery is one of the most unique outdoor experiences I’ve explored. Hidden along winding wooded paths inside Elk Rapids Day Park, the trail combines nature, creativity, and a surprise around every corner.

What started as a simple walk through the woods quickly turned into something much more magical. Sculptures appeared tucked into the trees, hidden beside the trails, and sometimes towering above us like secret pieces of another world waiting to be discovered.
With 15 acres of trails to wander, every path seemed to lead to something unexpected. Some sculptures blended so naturally into the forest that you almost walked past them before suddenly realized they were there.
Discovering The Sculpture Trails
I had visited the sculpture park before, but this was the first time I truly explored the trails themselves. Usually, I’d head straight for the beach to search for Petoskey stones or sit by the water, but this time I wanted to slow down and experience everything the park had to offer. So, I recruited my friend Amanda for an afternoon adventure.
Exploring With Amanda

Before heading to the park, we stopped at The Dam Food Truck in Elk Rapids, where my daughter was working. We grabbed lunch, watched boats come and go along the water, and even got to see my daughter making fresh scones for their bakery case before heading off to explore the trails.
Lunch In Elk Rapids

The Walk of Art Sculpture park ended up being even more beautiful and creative than I expected. Every turn revealed another piece of art – some whimsical, some peaceful, and some that make us stop and stare for a while. It didn’t feel like a typical hike at all. It felt more like walking through an outdoor storybook hidden in the woods.
Even after hours of exploring, we still didn’t see every trail, which just gives me another reason to go back again someday.
Places like this remind me that healing doesn’t always happen in silence. Sometimes it happens through creativity, adventure, and getting lost on a wooded trail with people you love.
