One of the things I love most about living in Northern Michigan is how easy it is to connect with nature. Whether I’m hiking a trail, sitting around a campfire, or simply enjoying my morning coffee. I find that being surrounded by the outdoors helps me slow down and appreciate the simple things.

Creating Cozy Spaces

Creating cozy spaces doesn’t have to stop at your front door. Some of my favorite moments happen when I can enjoy nature from the comfort of my home. Watching birds visit the yard has become one of those simple pleasures that brightens my day. A bird feeder can turn an ordinary morning into an opportunity to observe wildlife up close, and it’s amazing how much joy a few feathered visitors can bring.

This summer I’ve been focusing on keeping birds around and wanting to come back. My husband set up a few different posts in our front yard for me to hang all my new bird feeders. We even took and old satellite dish, flipped it upside down, and filled the bowl shape with cracked corn and a bowl of jelly in the center. And let me tell you – they love it! Now they come back just to hang out in the trees and get a little snack when they’re passing through.

Watching birds has become one of my favorite ways to slow down. On busy mornings, even a few minutes spent observing cardinals, finches, and chickadees reminds me to pause and appreciate the beauty that’s right outside my door.

One feature I find especially interesting is the ability to identify visiting birds through an app. Smart bird feeders with built-in cameras can help you learn more about the birds that visit your yard while allowing you to enjoy nature from the comfort of home. I recently added a smart bird feeder to my yard, and it’s been fascinating to learn more about the birds that stop by each day. Learn more about the smart bird feeder here

After spending time outdoors, I enjoy returning to a home that feels warm, welcoming, and peaceful. Creating a cozy atmosphere indoors doesn’t require a complete makeover. Often, it’s the small details that make the biggest difference.

Finding Comfort in Everyday Spaces

Soft blankets, favorite books, candles, family photos, and simple farmhouse-style decor all help create a space that feels comfortable and inviting. Even rooms that are often overlooked, like bathrooms, can benefit from a few thoughtful touches.

Recently, I found a rustic farmhouse bathroom wall art piece that adds a little charm and personality to an everyday space. It’s a simple reminder that comfort can be found in the smallest details, and that every room in our home can contribute to a feeling of peace and relaxation. And I found the perfect spot in my bathroom to hang it! See the farmhouse wall art here.

Whether you’re creating a cozy backyard retreat, enjoying the beauty of local wildlife, or adding personal touches throughout your home, the goal isn’t perfection. It’s about creating spaces that helps you feel calm, comfortable, and connected to the things that matter most.

For me, that means bringing together the best of both worlds – nature outside and comfort inside.
